Campbell River Search and Rescue was called out Monday 18 May in the early evening. Two sisters had been hiking the Ripple Rock Trail and had wandered off the trail, eventually becoming stuck and lost along the water’s edge. They very wisely called for help on their cell phone sooner rather than later, so that rescuers were able to mobilize while there was still plenty of daylight. By chance, an RCMP helicopter was already working in the area, and was able to spot the pair from above, which cut hours off the job of finding the women. Search and Rescue personnel were then able to pick them up in their boat and return them to the trailhead.

We would like to remind the public always to take along supplies for the unexpected when in the outdoors, and always to let someone know where you will be, and when you plan to return.
