A contingent of our members are certified as Organized Avalanche Rescue Team Members(OARTM). This training allows searchers the ability to safely travel and operate in avalanche areas for back-country rescues. A certified member is able to identify high hazard avalanche regions through analyzing proper snow layers and also by familiarization with features in the alpine which are prone to avalanches and unstable snow loading.

An OARTM also possesses the necessary techniques to perform an avalanche subject recovery through use of transceivers and probes. More importantly an OARTM is trained to work in a team using universal protocols adopted by all BC Search and Rescue groups. This helps to increase efficiency in these intense and extremely time sensitive situations.
